Amanda Cote is a Ph.D. candidate and Graduate Student Instructor in the University of Michigan’s Department of Communication Studies. Her work focuses on issues of technological access, representation and new media, with a particular emphasis on video games and gender. More specifically, she analyzes the ways in which console and PC video games have been constructed as “masculine” and the broader gender and technological impacts of this trend. Her current research project uses in-depth interviews with female players to illustrate the entryways and barriers to gaming that they face from audience, content and industry perspectives.
